Markstein Adds Sylvester Lavender as Vice President, Finance and Accounting

Markstein, an integrated communications agency, today announced that Sylvester Lavender has been named vice president, finance and accounting. Lavender will oversee the financial operations and accounting functions of the agency while helping to drive both short- and long-term growth.

“The addition of Sylvester to the team is critical to the agency’s strategic vision as we continue to evolve and drive our business forward,” said Keelie Segars, CEO. “His experience managing complex fiscal matters combined with his ingenuity to generate sustained growth make him the perfect financial leader for Markstein.”

Lavender brings more than a decade of experience as a seasoned financial executive. Prior to joining Markstein, Lavender was the director of finance for the Birmingham Airport Authority and served as the interim CEO for 11 months. During his tenure, Lavender successfully completed the financial management of a $201 million bond financed Terminal Modernization Project and managed a $47 million, CFC financed CONRAC Project and a $5 million CNG gas station.

Lavender also served as an accounting officer for the University of Alabama Health System and served as the president and CFO of the Jefferson Community Credit Union, which he established for eastern Jefferson County serving over 100,000 people and growing assets to $1.7 million in its first year.

“I am excited to join Markstein especially at such a pivotal time for the agency,” said Lavender. “The agency’s consistent ability to deliver meaningful results for its clients, commitment to culture and openness to strategic change is extremely valuable. I look forward to leading the financial direction of the agency and taking Markstein to the next level.”
